Galician fashion
Today, fashion is one of the areas of particular importance to the Galician economy and has solid production structure. It comprises 760 textile and clothing companies, directly employing about 30,000 people, mostly women.
The main sector implementation cores are Arteixo, A Coruña, Vigo, Ferrol, Ourense, Lalin, Redondela and Santiago de Compostela. The Galician fashion has international presence through the expansion of Galician companies such as Inditex, and the work of professionals as Adolfo Dominguez, Roberto Verino, Kina Fernández, Antonio Pernas, etc.
Its success comes from a successful synthesis of product design, production, marketing and communication of the image quality and design. The Galician textile apparel, which had a turnover of EUR 4,350 million in 2002, saw its exports doubled from 2000 to 2003, earning the 1,191 million euros.
Galicia currently holds the first place in the ranking of Spanish regions exporting garments, the higher value added product.
The main activities of this sector are in the production of parts in series manufacturing industries, Galicia where the largest number of creators and industries, and to a lesser extent, in the production of knitwear.
