Paris: City of Paris

Paris is the capital of France. It is located in the north of the country, crossed by the Seine. The population of the city proper is of 2,153,600 inhabitants, and is the center of a metropolitan area of ??9.9 million inhabitants, which corresponds to the Paris region or "Ile de France" (in French Île-de- France).

Paris is today one of the world's leading economy and stock exchange centers, and its influence in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science and the arts contribute to its status as a major cities worldwide.

La Défense is a major business district in Europe, houses the headquarters of almost half of large French companies, as well as the headquarters of twenty of the 100 largest in the world. Paris also hosts many international organizations such as UNESCO, the OECD, the International Criminal Court and the Paris Club.

Paris is the most popular tourist destination in the world, with over 30 million foreign visitors per year. Neighborhoods and historic

Champs Elysees (8th district, right bank) is a seventeenth century garden, become-ride great avenue connecting the Concorde and the Arc de Triomphe. It is one of the many tourist attractions and a major shopping street of Paris. This avenue has been called "L'Avenue Plus Belle du Monde" (The most beautiful avenue in the world).

Avenue Montaigne (8th arrondissement), next to the Champs Elysees, is home to luxury brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton (LVMH), Dior and Givenchy.

Place de la Concorde (8th district, right bank) is at the foot of the Champs Elysées, was built in the "Place Louis XV", site of the famous guillotine. In it, on either side of the Rue Royale, there are two stone buildings: the eastern houses the French Naval Ministry, the western the luxurious Hotel de Crillon.Close, Place Vendôme is famous for its luxury hotels and trendy (Hotel Ritz and Place Vendôme) and its jewelers. Many famous fashion designers have had their salons in the square.

Commercy District (8th district, right bank) is the district of Paris high fashion, home of big brands such as Hermès and Christian Lacroix.

Paris Opéra
(9th arrondissement, right bank) is the area around the Opéra Garnier is the capital area with the highest concentration of stores and offices. Some examples are the Printemps department stores and [[[Galeries Lafayette]]] It is also the headquarters of financial giants such as BNP Paribas and American Express.

Montmartre (18 arrondissement, right bank) here is the historic area of Butte, instead of the Sacré C?ur. Montmartre has always had a history with artists and has many studios and cafés of many great artists in this field.

Les Halles (1st district, right bank) was formerly the central market of meat and other products of the Paris market. Since the late 70s, is a large shopping center around an important metro connection station (the largest in Europe). The market of Les Halles was destroyed in 1971 and replaced by the Forum des Halles.The central market of Paris, the biggest wholesale food market in the world, was transferred to Rungis, in the southern suburbs.

Le Marais (3rd and 4th districts) is a fashion district with area businesses and companies in the legal and banking. In it there are large populations of Jews (most of Western Europe), gays, etc.. It is considered as the most cosmopolitan city in Europe.

Place de la Bastille (4th, 11th and 12th districts, right bank) is one of the most historic districts, instead of critical events in history, not only in Paris but throughout France. Because of its historical value the square is often used for political demonstrations, including the fight against the CPE with a massive demonstration on March 28, 2006.

Quartier Latin (5th and 6th districts, left bank) is a twelfth-century academic center, which extends from the left bank of the Place Maubert and the campus of the University of La Sorbonne. It is known for its lively atmosphere and many bars. With various higher education institutions, such as the École Normale Supérieure, ParisTech and the campus of the University of Jussieu become a major educational center in Paris, which also contributes to its atmosphere.

Montparnasse (14th District) is a historical place where the Bank of France area famous for artists' studios, music, life and the cafeteria.It is located the large Montparnasse - Bienvenue (metro and railway station) and the famous Tour Montparnasse unusual citywide. Also located there is another series of skyscrapers.

La Défense (covers the municipalities of Courbevoie, Puteaux, and Nanterre, km/1.5 2.5 miles west of the city of Paris) is a key element of the suburbs (suburbs) of Paris.
